Please join us on Thursday, March 12th at 7:00 PM to welcome two local authors, Antoinette Constable and Joanna Biggar in a discussion of their novels about courageous female characters caught in pivotal historic events.
Antoinette Constable will read from her debut YA novel, NATALIE IN THE SHADOW OF THE SWASTIKA, about a young girl coming of age in WWII occupied France. Joanna Biggar, author and teacher of creative writing and literature, joins in a discussion of the importance of setting in novels. Both authors have used Paris and other European cities of rich historical context to inspire vivid stories about self-determined young women. Natalie is set in 1940s Paris and Montreux, Switzerland. Joanna’s first novel, THAT PARIS YEAR, features five young women from California studying at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1962. The recently published sequel, MELANIE’S SONG, centers on the mysterious disappearance of one of the young women, and follows her friend’s determined search for her in the socially turbulent late-1960s and early-1970s— the era of Woodstock and Watergate.
